'A Land Fit for Heroes’ – the place of women in the soldier settlement scheme and how ongoing archival research over many years revealed their hidden stories
March 17 2010
Seminar Room, 2 Globe Street, The Rocks at 6.00pm
Selena Williams will discuss how State Records’ Volunteer project and her research for her Masters evolved from the initial tentative steps with the volunteers looking at files to understand them and place them in their context and then to her discovery of nurses as soldier settlers for her research for her Masters. Selena will draw on the case studies to throw light on the difficulties – poor land and the mental and physical heath issues - faced by the soldier settlers.
This event is presented by the Australian Society of Archivists (NSW Branch), the Australian Women’s Archives Project (NSW Committee) and State Records NSW. 0A
